Juneteenth  (also known as Emancipation Day)


a Federally recognize holiday celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth was made a federal holiday June 17, 2021

What to Expect

Juneteenth Parade Info & Forms

Kentucky US Freedmen Coalition is teaming up with Lexington Parks and Rec to host the first Juneteenth Celebration march through downtown. Click on the link above for information and forms.

Sunday is for Juneteenth Jubilee local churches and choirs will come out perform spiritual songs and messages of blessings, also local vendors invite as well as free food and games for the children. Later in the afternoon there will be entertainment from local rappers and R&B soul singers. Come on out and enjoy the memorial and celebration of perseverance of the American Freedmen who not only save the Union but brought Freedmen to millions of the enslaved.
